BASR Organizes A 2-Day Training on Social Responsibility for Disability Issues PDF Print E-mail

BASR’s CBR program organized a 2-day training on social responsibility for disability issues, supported by CBM, targeting 22 members of municipalities, civil society institutions, directorates of education, labor and social affairs, and several vocational training centers in the Bethlehem and Hebron districts.

The training tackled such topics as disability related concepts and models, appropriate language of disability, the UNCRPD and national law on the rights of people with disabilities.

It also encompassed group work discussing the attitudinal, environmental and institutional barriers that hinder the full participation of persons with disabilities in society.

The training offered participants the opportunity to exchange experiences with disability issues, where a member of Sorif Municipality commented “People with disabilities have great capabilities and we have to put an end to all negative stereo-types that prevail in our society”.

Such training aims at raising the awareness of local authorities and civil society of the rights and needs of persons with disabilities and lobbying them to mainstream persons with disabilities in their policies and practices as part of their social responsibility obligations.
