In the early morning of a bright day colored with such energy and passion, 130 people with different types of disabilities and volunteers supportive of disability issues, came along from several remote villages of the Bethlehem and Hebron districts and gathered at the park of Al-Arroub Agricultural College, looking ahead to exchange personal experiences and  achievements in their local communities.

A complete day of the social gathering supported by Diakonia, was organized by BASR’s CBR Program in cooperation with the Right to Play Organization, targeting 11 self-help groups that include 130 active people with disabilities.

The social gathering started with an open session of exchange of experiences, achievements and future plans for advocating the rights of persons with disabilities and overcoming societal barriers in their local communities. The session was then followed by such various pedagogical and recreational activities as running contests and displays of various talents of the participating persons with disabilities.

Such regular gatherings aim at promoting the crucial role of the self-help groups, the importance of peer support and team work among persons with and without disabilities, joining efforts for advocating the rights of persons with disabilities and influencing positive change in society for mainstreaming disability in all aspects of development in their local communities.
