BASR Receives an Award for Winning the Joint Tempus Education Project PDF Print E-mail

Under the patronage of the Prime Minister Dr. Rami Hamdallah, the Minister of Education Dr. Ali Abu Zuhri and the EU Head of Operations in Palestine Mr. Sergio Piccolo, BASR’s General Director - Edmund Shehadeh - received a certificate of merit at a conference held by the Tempus Office in Palestine, for winning one of the granted seven projects of Tempus program in its 6th call for proposals, which aimed at supporting the modernization of higher education in Palestine.

This project will be implemented in partnership with 9 national and international universities and rehabilitation centers in 2014 - 2016, which is concerned with introducing vision rehabilitation into the academic programs / curriculum of the higher education institutions involved, namely, in relation to occupational therapy, optometry and ophthalmology studies, establishing advanced laboratories at partner universities and enhancing their assessment standards and managerial procedures. In this regard, BASR’s role will encompass training occupational therapy and optometry interns coming from Palestinian universities such as An-Najah National University and Bethlehem University.

Prior to launching the project, BASR’s interdisciplinary team including selected vision rehabilitation instructors, ophthalmologists, optometrists, early interventionists and occupational therapists will take part in several training workshops each upon his/her specialty on “ vision assessment”, “ Activities of Daily Living Skills”, “Orientation & Mobility”, “Early Intervention”, in addition to formulating curricula with relevant scholars from the participating Arab and European universities encompassing the German Jordanian University, university of Birmingham, Aston University, Eotvos Lorand University, Radboud University, University of Hamburg, and Royal Dutch Visio Institution.
