In partnership with the south Hebron branch of the Directorate of Education, YMCA and Studio Al-Raya, BASR’s CBR program organized a festival in celebration of the International day of persons with disabilities on 3rd December, entitled “Our Disability does not Mean Inability. Yes to Inclusion and Equality for All”. The festival was held at the boys’ primary school in Dura city, south of Hebron district, in which more than 400 people participated including school principals and teachers, students with and without disabilities and their families, Directorate of Education staff and representatives of civil society organizations.

The director of the south Hebron Directorate of Education emphasized in his opening speech the commitment of the Ministry of Education to the implementation of the Palestinian Law on the rights of persons with disabilities 4/1999, including the employment quota of 5% for persons with disabilities.

The festival encompassed a play on including children with disabilities in regular schools, followed by several recreational activities such as a clown show and poetry dealing with disability issues, in addition to a musical show performed by a traditional Palestinian musician with vision impairment.

Such events aim at raising public awareness on the rights of persons with disabilities, particularly their right to quality education as well as their right to employment in educational establishments on equal footing with others.
