Training Program on Basic Clinical Skills for Local Psychologists PDF Print E-mail

BASR is launching a pilot training program in basic clinical skills targeting palestinian psychologists. This program is conducted by a visiting psychologist from the UK, Dr. Ann Moriarty, in collaboration with BASR’s psychologist, Mr. Jeries Shahwan, and will continue over a six month period in 2012.

The academic psychological program in Palestinian universities has limited clinical training, which hinders the provision of adequate psychological services in the region.   Hence, this training is designed to address the gap between the graduate’s academic knowledge and the needed practical skills and service requirements. Hopefully,   after completing this program, the participant should be better prepared to compete for a position as a psychologist in a service such as BASR, or a clinical research project.

The first round of training sessions was held at BASR for four participants for three weeks in May and focused on psychometric assessment and report writing. The second phase of the training will encompass ongoing clinical experience with supervision in addition to subsequent block training as appropriate.
