“Decentralization and Cooperation between Bethlehem Governorate and the Belgian Province of Hainaut” second workshop held at BASR PDF Print E-mail

In collaboration with the Governorate of Bethlehem, BASR organized the second 3-day workshop on decentralization and cooperation between Bethlehem Governorate and the Belgian province of Hainaut.

The workshop was attended by a number of representatives of the Ministries of Local Governance, Social Affairs, Education and Higher Education, Labor and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). In addition, BASR’s CBR program manager, BASR’s outreach program coordinator, heads of municipalities and village councils and members of the administrative committees of the community centers and other institutions working in the field of disability were amongst the participants.

This three day workshop was conducted to set a future action plan to support people with disabilities and provide them with the needed services to promote their inclusion and equal participation in society. It aims to expand the work of BASR’s CBR and outreach rehabilitation programs to cover all areas of the Bethlehem Governorate reaching out to more marginalized beneficiaries in remote rural areas. It also aims to train and build the capacity of staff of local authorities, community centers and other institutions working in the disability field in order to guide them to mainstream disability issues and the needs of people with disabilities in their policies and practices.

The workshop is part of the partnership agreement between the Bethlehem Governorate and the Belgian province of Hainaut, which was signed end of February 2012, to enhance cooperation between the two authorities to support people with disabilities and exchange experiences and expertise that would allow new ideas and sustainable projects to be developed.
