Five other successful cochlear implant surgeries at BASR PDF Print E-mail

Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation conducted five electronic cochlear implants for children, ages 2-6 years, suffering from different hearing problems. The cochlear devices will be switched on and tested in January 2012. Once this step is successfully completed, a comprehensive five year rehabilitation program will be planned for each of them to teach them to utilize the auditory signal and to naturally integrate the various components of communication. Cochlear implants provide a life-changing opportunity for some patients with severe or profound hearing loss and enable them to become active members of the hearing community. A cochlear implant relieves people with hearing disability from learning or using sign language or lip reading, as they will be able to communicate effectively with others as a result of auditory rehabilitation.
