BASR organised an opening event for the leisure and sports program for people with visual impairment at the Bethlehem Sports Club of the Disabled through the generous support of the Finish Federation of the Visually Impaired (FFVI).

Through the generous support of the Finish Federation of the Visually Impaired (FFVI), BASR equipped the Bethlehem Sports Club of the Disabled (BSCD) with accessible leisure and sports equipment for people with visual impairment to be an inclusive facility accommodating all types of disabilities including those with visual impairment and facilitating their access to recreational and leisure activities as an empowerment tool toward inclusion and full participation in society.

The opening event was attended by representatives of FFVI and BASR, members of BSCD and new members with visual impairment from different areas of the Bethlehem district.

The opening event started with speeches by the FFVI Head of International Cooperation, Mr. Timo Kuoppala - BASR’s Director of Program Development, Ms. Rima Canawati – and the Chair of BSCD, Mr. Nasser Jaber, who all highlighted the purpose of such an innovative and pioneering program through which people with visual impairment can enjoy their right to leisure and sports on equal par with others, followed by musical performances by people with visual impairment and fun activities.

During the event, the new members with visual impairment had the opportunity to come together with sighted members and other members with physical disabilities and play various accessible games.

The opening event was exciting for all present, as they were all involved in the playing and singing activities in a joyful and interactive setting.
