Dura Municipality Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education opening PDF Print E-mail


Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation and Dura Municipality have opened the Dura Municipality Center for Rehabilitation and Special Education. The center was funded by the Belgian organization APFEE and Action around Bethlehem Children with Disability (ABCD).The opening was attended by Mr. Mustafa Rjoub ; Dura’s Mayor, Mr. Edmund Shehadeh; General Director of BASR, Fawzi Abu Hlaiel; Director of Education for South Hebron, and a Belgian solidarity delegation and a number of representatives from different Palestinian NGOs and institutions.


At the beginning of the ceremony Mr. Rajoub welcomed the delegation thanking them for their continuous support for the Centre for Dura Municipality Center and praised the role of BASR in supporting projects dealing with persons with disabilities in the region. Mr. Rajoub credited Dura municipality with putting issues concerning people with disability on its top priorities to facilitate their integration in the educational process and in the community through the center.


Mr. Abu Hlaiel stressed on the Ministry of Education’s commitment to people with disability issues. He mentioned that the ministry’s continuous efforts in this field have resulted in three centers for inclusive education in Ramallah, Hebron and Gaza. Abu Hlaiel said there is a great need for cooperation and coordination between all institutions in the field in order to provide services and assistance to persons with disabilities.


Mr. Shehadeh spoke about the importance of such centers in achieving integration in education, and expressed his confidence in the ability of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian institutions to provide appropriate solutions to the obstacles the community is facing. He added that the BASR is committed to providing its services to all segments of the Palestinian society, regardless of region, religion or political background, showing the unity of the Palestinian people.

The ceremony ended with the visit to the center’s departments which allowed the guests to see the progress of the work done by the center so far.
