Success of a Complicated Hand Surgery

A team of cosmetic restoration surgeons at the Specialized Rehabilitation and Surgery Hospital at Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation (BASR) succeeded in saving a young man’s hand after a dangerous accident at work. The accident caused the five fingers to be amputated. The medical team managed to re-implant four fingers after containing the damage that happened and compensated the fifth by transferring a toe to the hand in a complicated surgery which lasted sixteen hours. The success of the operation was assured when doctors found that the patient would be able to feel the implanted toe again and that; as a consequence, he would be able to do the usual activities of daily living and resume his life normally.

It should be noted that the team of Surgical Cosmetic Restoration in the Specialized Rehabilitation and Surgery Hospital is conducting advanced surgeries in the field of repairing scars resulting from severe burns, and congenital malformations in the hand and cleft lip, which in turn raise the level of operations and services provided to BASR’s beneficiaries
