Cochlear Implant Project for the People with Hearing Impairment in Palestine PDF Print E-mail
 

Under the auspices of the Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayyad and the attendance of various government officials, mayors, and different medical institutions’ representatives, BASR organized an opening ceremony for the “Cochlear Implant Project for the People with Hearing Impairment in Palestine”. The project is funded by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and other national organizations that covered the costs of the cochlear implants including Bank of Palestine and Eyes Company for Trade and Investment.

Dr. Fayyad said he is pleased with the achievements he has observed at BASR, which add value to the medical services provided in Palestine, and to the efforts made to build the institutions of the Palestinian state. He gave congratulations on behalf of President Mahmoud Abbas to the senior management, to the general assembly and to all BASR’s staff for this great accomplishment.

He also stated that the Cochlear Implant Project is a “Medical Excellence” providing invaluable service to the children with hearing impairment stressing the importance of similar projects in Palestine towards building capacity and expertise at local health institutions.

Mr. Edmund Shehadeh; General Director of BASR gave a detailed explanation about the project and its medical benefits to the patients particularly children with hearing impairment which in turn lead to their inclusion in all aspects of community and have the opportunity to access education on equal footing with their peers.

At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Fayyad and other attendees accompanied by the medical Ear.Nose.Throat team had a tour in the hospital to brief them about some cases that underwent cochlear implant surgeries.
